Churachandpur medical facility on the brink of collapse, amidst Covid-19 spread
Riding on a baby donkey, when Jesus entered into Jerusalem the people shouted, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” (John 12:13).
But, some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” And then Jesus answered, “I tell you, if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” (Luke 19:39-40).
Similarly, as the whole world is grappling with the Covid-19 pandemic, Churachandpur District is no less safer from the rest of the world. Yet, people are going wild here, breaking all forms of safety norms issued by the government. And then, no one seems to be conscious of the present scenario. Even the district administration is not serious enough when it comes to dealing with the safety and well-being of the denizens.
The latest unofficial Covid update (but confirmed through various sources) of the district that 31 medical staff from the district tested positive for Covid-19 scares the hell out of everyone. Now our hospital beds are full, our Covid care centres are fully occupied. Where are we going to keep new Covid-19 patients is a question everyone must ask our district administration.
We are clearly heading for mass infection as is evident from the rising number of infections and fatality seen in recent days.
If our health workers are getting infected in large numbers and we don’t have more rooms, our Covid facility won’t stand long. The picture of Italy unfolds.
We have to know what alternatives are being arranged. Let us for a while, keep aside politics which is not going to save our lives and think for a while so that we may survive this tribulation.
A collective initiative is in high demand. I earnestly appeal to all respected student association leaders, civil society organisations and of course the various Inpuis, to chalk out an alternative arrangements or roll out a well planned lockdown strategy with the District Administration, not to forget the district council too.
When the responsible persons and elected representatives are silent and when everyone is waiting for someone to shout out and don’t bother to step in, even ‘pebbles’ will cry out for the sake of general public.
Until then, we have to put on our masks, wash hands regularly and avoid crowding. If socializing is unavoidable, maintaining a distance of 6 feet from the other person will help.
Acquiescent, someday we’ll sit down and laugh about it together, but first let’s break the chain of infection.
