Zomi Namni declared restricted holiday in Manipur, claims viral message
Claims of “Zomi Namni” been declared a restricted holiday by Manipur government is doing rounds in social media platforms – Facebook and WhatsApp lately. Meanwhile, there is no official confirmation on the issue from the state government.
According to the viral message, Zomi Namni which is the “biggest festival” for nine tribal tribes under the Zomi umbrella has been declared a restricted Holiday in Manipur during yesterday’s Cabinet meeting.
“Breaking News: Zomi Namni is now a restricted holiday in Manipur. In today’s cabinet meeting of Manipur the Zomi Namni – 20th February which is the biggest festival/important day for nine tribes under Zomi has been declared as one of the restricted holiday in Manipur” the viral message reads.
The Chin-Kuki-Mizo group of tribes in Manipur comprising over two dozen communities have been celebrating together the Kut festival on November 1 for the past few decades and the day is one of the state official holidays. It is not clear on what ground the Zomi Namni has been granted restricted holiday status if the viral message is true.
