Zawlliensuo Bridge over Barak River to be completed by May 15, 2020: Biswajit Singh

Imphal/Pherzawl: Construction of Zawlliensuo bridge, connecting Taithu and Patpuihmun village of Tipaimukh AC will be completed before May 15, 2020. This was stated by Manipur Works Minister Th Biswajit Singh during the 11th Legislative Assembly Session on Tuesday.

Biswajit was replying to a starred question raised by Tipaimukh MLA Dr Chaltonlien Amo on when the construction of the much-needed bailey bridge over the Barak River will be completed.

This important bridge will be connecting National Highway-2 and Jiri-Tipaimukh Road respectively.

Dr Amo told local daily Hmasawnna Thar that “the honourable minister assured me the bridge will be completed before May 15, 2020 (monsoon season).” This is the fourth time in five years that a targeted date for completion of work has been made by the government.

“I personally request to the minister to fulfil the promise at least this time,” Dr Amo, who is also the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, added.

Dr. Amo also said that he has brought to the attention of the “honourable Chief Minister who is also the in charge of the finance department and he has agreed to release funds for completion of the said bridge”.

In the previous Assembly held last year, the government assured to the MLA that Zawlliensuo Bridge would be completed by June 30, 2019. Till then 80% of the works have been completed. Similarly, in the 2017 Assembly Session, the bridge was supposed to be completed by April 30, 2018. During that period 65 per cent of the work was completed.

Construction of Zawlliensuo Bridge, that will act as an important lifeline for the villagers of Tipaimukh Constituency was started in 2015. The target date for completion of this bridge has been deferred four times by the state government.
