Ferryboat donated by Vangai SDO inaugurated; Zawlliensuo Bridge at Tuiruong yet to be completed
A boat ferry to carry vehicles and people across Tuiruong (Barak) river at Zawlliensuo was inaugurated on February 1, 2021. It will provide a crucial link between the two sub-divisions of Vangai and Parbung in Pherzawl District as the under-construction bridge here has been delayed over the years for reasons best known to the builders and the state government.
The ferry boat is donated by Vangai Sub-Division Officer Pu Derrick L. Khawbung who has been dedicatedly working in this part of the state despite hard living conditions.
The dedication of the ferry boat was conducted by Rev. Vanlalringa Darlong.
Locals from Parbung Sub-Division and Pherzawl Sub-Division see this as an important link.
“We will now be able to travel even to Jiribam and Silchar easily provided the roads between Patpuihmun and Ankhasuo is properly maintaned throughout the year. We sincely thank Pu Derrick for his social work,” Thanga of Damdiei village on hearing about the new facility.
Meanwhile, Zawlliensuo Bridge, which will connect Taithu and Patpuihmun villages is yet to be completed. In reply to Tipaimukh MLA Dr Chaltonlien Amo’s question in the state Assembly last year, Manipur Works Minister Th Biswajit Singh said the “bridge would be completed by May 2020”.
Construction of Zawlliensuo Bridge, that will act as an important lifeline not only for Pherzawl District, but for the entire state, was started late in 2015. Yet, the target completion dates for the said project have been deferred multiple times by the State government.
This important bridge will link National Highway-2 and the Jiri-Tipaimukh Road respectively.
