Sinate donates Motorboat Ambulance for public to mark Modi’s 70th birthday in Pherzawl District

Pherzawl, September 22, 2020: The first motorboat ambulance in Pherzawl District was dedicated to the people yesterday during a function to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 70th birthday at Tieulien village. The boat ambulance will be able to ferry the needy and sick from the twin Sub-divisions of Vangai and Tipaimukh to places like Silchar and Jiribam via the Barak (Tuiruong) river even in the monsoon season when the country roads are not fit for vehicles to ply.

The ambulance is donated to the Hmar Youth Association, a philanthropic organization of the Hmar tribe, by Ms Thangthatling Sinate, who is the executive member of Manipur BJP ST Morcha. She also distributed free of cost masks and hand sanitizers.

“The boat ambulance was in the planning for a couple of years now. But deu to various reasons it could not materialized. I am glad that we can now dedicate it to help the people of this remote area in honor of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi-ji. We could not do it on September 17 itself due to the remoteness of the area, but I hope this ambulance will be a life saver for many people in the days to come,” Ms Sinate told Hilldigest.com over the phone from Tieulien village.

The social worker also said that she was inspired to work on this unique project after hearing the plight of 9 motor accident victims who remained stranded for three days at Ngampabung village with no means to take them to hospital for treatment due to bad roads a couple of years ago.

“I was really touched and motivated after hearing the plight of the people of the villagers who could not get timely treatment. Many a times they are forced to carry the sick with bamboo stretchers to the nearest health centre or hospital. I hope this boat ambulance will make their live easier,” she added.

Leaders of the Hmar Youth Association (Vangai Jt HQ) expressed ‘heartfelt appreciation’ to Ms Sinate and said they will soon chalked out some guidelines on how to use the ‘wonderful gift’ in the next few days.
